Brief description: Relatively easy route on alpine terrain with several climbs/descents. Nature, historical architecture and possible sightings of mountain goats will ensure exciting trekking.
Surroundings: We start on a path followed by climbing through a landscape of gorse and wild rose bushes that lead us to the castle. We continue along a mountain path with excellent views over the surroundings of the Santa Catarina hermitage. With a certain probability, a group of mountain goats cross our path. A short, somewhat uncomfortable path leads to the idyllic retreat. One last climb to the Coll de la Creu and from there we return to the initial road towards the parking lot.
Remarkable: The ascent to the castle on the southern slope is a walk through a sea of flowers, especially in spring. Hikers who are not afraid of heights can climb one of the four towers of the castle and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view. There is nothing inside the walls, except an information panel about the history of the installation. The hermitage Santa Caterina, which unfortunately only opens on Sundays, still offers terrific places to relax. During the walk, with a little luck, you can see herds of mountain goats that reside in the Montgri Massif. In a pack of approximately 20 animals, we have sighted four mountain goats at the same time with the typically curved horns.
Don`t forget: swimsuit, flip flops, sun protection, sufficient drinks (water, isotonic drinks), energy food, comfortable clothing, spare clothing (when sweating or freezing), rainwear if needed and BEING IN A GOOD MOOD ;-)
